Alphonse Amadou Alley

Alphonse Amadou Alley ( April 9, 1930 , † March 28, 1987 ) was President of Dahomey, today's Benin , from 1967 to 1968 .

On December 19, 1967, President General Christophe Soglo , who himself came to power through a coup , was overthrown in a military coup led by Iropa Maurice Kouandété . Kouandété handed over the presidency to Lieutenant Colonel Alley two days later . On June 26, 1968, the ruling junta decided to entrust a civilian government with solving the country's problems.

It was decided for Émile Derlin Henri Zinsou , who replaced Alley on July 17, 1968 as president; his term of office was ended in a familiar coup the following year.

In August 2004, the construction of a mausoleum for Alley began in Bassilia .
