Gottfried Kumpf (born November 29, 1930 in Annaberg im Lammertal ) is an Austrian painter , graphic artist and sculptor .

Live and act

Kumpf was born the son of a country doctor. He has lived in Breitenbrunn am Neusiedler See ( Burgenland ) since 1968 .

The main subject of his painting are landscapes, which he creates in a naive style. The trademark of his pictures is the anti-social , which can usually be found hidden in some corner of the picture.

He designed the motorway service station in Göttlesbrunn and the thermal baths in Stegersbach , but in 2004 most of the elements designed by Kumpf were removed as part of a renovation. Together with Thomas Brezina , he wrote a series of picture books. He has also designed several postage stamps for the Austrian Post and for the United Nations Postal Administration .

In 2005 he designed bronze sculptures of the 12 signs of the zodiac , which had previously been used in a series of telephone prepaid cards for the Austrian Post.

Gottfried Kumpf was married to the visual artist and librettist Maria Plachky (1920–1982).
