Beatrice of Savoy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beatrice of Savoy (in Czech Betrice Savojská ) (* around 1310 , † 1331 ) was the third wife of Heinrich von Kärnten (Czech Jindřich Korutanský ) and a daughter of Count Amadeus V of Savoy .

At the age of seventeen she was married to the man forty years her senior in February 1328. For Heinrich, this marriage meant the last chance to father an heir. In addition, this political wedding with the cousin of Johann von Luxemburg was supposed to end the long-standing dispute between the two rivals for the Bohemian throne. Johann promised to provide the bride with a dowry of 10,000  silver marks , but without later keeping the promise. But this marriage also remained without a successor and so Heinrich had to agree to the marriage of the Bohemian Prince Johann Heinrich and his daughter Margarete in 1330 , whose marriage had already been decided at the age of two. There are hardly any records of Beatrice, except for the death certificate from 1331.
