Austrian library network

The Austrian Library Association ( OBV ) is a cataloging and service association for academic and administrative libraries in Austria .

The carrier is the Österreichische Bibliothekenverbund und Service GmbH (OBVSG), which was founded on January 1, 2002 and is wholly owned by the Republic of Austria. This emerged from the planning center for academic library systems of the Austrian National Library , which was founded in 1974 and which was separated from it in 1995 and integrated into the Federal Ministry of Science and Research as the Library Automation Working Group (AGBA) . In 2012 the GmbH employed around 25 people. The managing director is Wolfgang Hamedinger.

The Austrian National Library and the University Libraries form the core of the network of over 80 libraries from 65 supporting organizations . The association is open to the participation of other institutions. Under the integrated library system Aleph 500 , the search engine software Primo and the sister system of Aleph - Alephino, all of the Ex Libris Group , both the local online catalogs of some network libraries, as well as the 2015 12 million titles with over 21 million copies and 0.8 Complete catalog containing millions of journal holdings is kept and freely accessible.

The Austrian Library Association also participates in the Common Authority File (GND) and the Journal Database (ZDB). The OBV is also the central Austrian service point for ISIL registration and URN allocation for scientific documents.

In 2015, the group decided to use the cloud-based software Alma from the same manufacturer as the successor system to Aleph from 2017 . In August 2017, the first seven academic libraries went live with Alma. Parallel operation will be maintained until the last libraries switch to Alma in 2021.
