Sim Iness

Simeon Garland "Sim" Iness (born July 9, 1930 in Keota , Oklahoma , † May 23, 1996 in Porterville , California ) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .

At the age of 22, Iness was Olympic champion in Helsinki in 1952 in the discus throw with a width of 55.03 m. A year later, despite injuries - he was hit in the face by a discus before his throws - on June 20 in Lincoln / Nebraska he set a world record with 57.93 m.

With a height of 1.90 m, his competition weight was 109 kg.
