Werner Arnold (cyclist)

Werner Arnold (born June 14, 1930 in Basel ; † February 1, 2005 there ) was a Swiss professional cyclist.

Arnold was one of the most famous cyclists in Switzerland in the 1950s. His successes include winning the Lake Geneva Tour and the Kaistenberg Tour , both of which he competed in 1953 as an amateur. He also took part in the Road World Championships in Lugano and finished 35th. In 1954 he was the winner of the Zurich championship . In the spring of 1956 he competed in his first big races as a professional. He took part in the Tour de France (86th place) and the Tour de Suisse (30th place). After his active career, he looked after both elite amateurs and professionals, including the Bonanza , Puch Eorotex and Paterlini Saxer Look teams . He died of a cerebral haemorrhage at the age of 74.
