Frithjof Rodi
Frithjof Rodi (born April 1, 1930 in Pforzheim ) is a German philosopher .
biography
Frithjof Rodi studied philosophy and German at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and at Queen Mary and Westfield College in London . Since 1951 he has been a member of the student association Akademische Gesellschaft Stuttgardia Tübingen . In 1958 he received his doctorate under Otto Friedrich Bollnow . After several years as a German lecturer at the University of Bristol in England and at Osmania University in India , he completed his habilitation in philosophy in Tübingen and was appointed to the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum in 1970 . He was instrumental in continuing the edition of the collected writings of the philosopher Wilhelm Dilthey (1833-1911), founded the Dilthey Research Center and published the Dilthey Yearbook for Philosophy and History of the Humanities from 1983-2000 . In addition to his work on Dilthey, to which he dedicated three books, Rodi tried - following the suggestions of his teacher Bollnow - to the philosophical work of Georg Misch (1878-1965), who in turn was a pupil of Dilthey and editor of his writings.

The publication of Misch's lectures on logic was the basis for Rodi's interest in a “hermeneutic logic” that transcends the traditional boundaries of logic in the teaching of concept and judgment . This expansion, already demanded by Dilthey, in the course of a justification of the theory of the humanities, concentrates on the performance of so-called evocative expressions, which do not determine a state of affairs theoretically, but rather articulate its significance in a “productive-objectifying way” . Rodi has examined the possibilities of developing concepts and judgments in the humanities in individual investigations. He suggested that linguistic expressions in which the realization of meaning is articulated should be called epidigmatic . In this sense, Goethe's famous word about the significance of the Valmy canonade ( “A new epoch of world history is starting here and today, and you can say you were there” ) is an epidigm that makes reality visible for understanding and comprehension it is only partially constituted in the process. This was further elaborated in the book On Experiencing Significance.
