Ivan Stepanowitsch Silayev

Iwan Stepanowitsch Silajew ( Russian Иван Степанович Силаев , scientific transliteration Ivan Stepanovič Silaev ; born October 21, 1930 in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ) is a Soviet or Russian politician. He was the last Prime Minister of the USSR from September 1991 to the end of December 1991 .

Silayev graduated from the Kazan Aviation Institute in 1954 as an aircraft engineer. Then he worked his way up to managing director of the Gorky aircraft factory (now Nizhny Novgorod ). He then went to Moscow and became Deputy Minister for the Aviation Industry (1974–1980), Minister for Mechanical Engineering (1980–1981) and Minister for the Aviation Industry (1981–1985).

1985–1990 he was first Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR and from September 6, 1991 to December 25, 1991 (last) Prime Minister of the country. In addition, he was Prime Minister of Russia from 1990 until Oleg Lobow succeeded him as Prime Minister in September 1991 .

From 1991 to 1994 Silayev was Russia's ambassador to the European Union .
