Valentin Sergeevich Pavlov
Valentin Pavlov ( Russian Валентин Сергеевич Павлов , scientific. Transliteration Valentin Sergeevič Pavlov * 26. September 1937 in Moscow , † the thirtieth March 2003 ibid) was Prime Minister of the Soviet Union from January to August 1991. He was one of the main actors of the August coup against Mikhail Gorbachev from 1991.
Life
Pavlov studied finance at the Moscow Financial Institute and was an official in the Ministry of Finance from 1959. In 1986 he was Chairman of the Prize Committee in the State Planning Committee. Then he became Minister of Finance from 1989 to 1991. After Nikolai Ryschkow was overthrown as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (Prime Minister), he was selected as a compromise candidate for this office on January 11, 1991.
The August coup
As a member of the State Committee for the State of Emergency , he was one of the initiators of the August coup against Gorbachev in August 1991. Your attempt to persuade Gorbachev to resign failed.
