Vytautas Laurušas

Vytautas Laurušas (born May 8, 1930 in Šiauliai ; † April 29, 2019 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian composer , music teacher and Soviet-Lithuanian politician.

Life

Laurušas studied with Julius Juzeliūnas at the Lithuanian State Conservatory until 1956 . From 1963 to 1975 he was director and artistic director of the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater . He then worked until 1983 as chairman of the Lithuanian Composers' Union. From 1983 to 1994 he was director of the Lithuanian State Conservatory, where he has been professor of composition since 1985 .

His works for the cello such as the Chamber Concerto for cello and cello ensemble, Discorso concitato for cello and string orchestra and Concento di corde for two cellos became particularly well known .

From 1971 to 1986 Laurušas was a candidate for membership of the Central Committee of the Lietuvos komunistų partija , from 1986 member of the Central Committee of the LKP. From 1975 he was a deputy in the Soviet-Lithuanian Supreme Council, from 1980 deputy chairman.
