Peggy Brown , bourgeois Margit Lorenz (* 1930 in Bohemia ) is a German pop singer from the 1960s.

Life

Margit Lorenz grew up in Bohemia and came to what was then the Soviet occupation zone due to the chaos of war in 1945 . In Erfurt she attended the music college, where she studied various instruments and singing. Her great love was initially jazz , so she sang with a big band in Gera .

In 1949 she came to Nienburg / Weser . From here she trundled through the country. In addition to jazz, she also sang Schlager. She later married the trombonist Schumann, with whom she moved to Munich in 1950. Here she played in various American clubs. During those years the Bavarian Radio produced several recordings with her and the Willi Bösel band under the direction of Herbert Beckh. After the Willi Bösel Band broke up, Margit Schumann founded her own band, where she sang as well as played guitar and accordion .

In the mid-1950s, Margit got her first record deal with Tempo . There she sang cover versions of successful German hits and duets with Fred Bertelmann and Claus Herwig . In 1960 she was signed to the Telefunken record company. The producer Wolf Kabitzky finally gave her the stage name Peggy Brown in 1960 and initially produced two titles with her. The 3rd title Because they go out to sea eventually became a super hit and stayed in the charts for weeks. As a result, she became very well known and received several awards. She was one of the best pop singers in Germany. The success brought her several engagements in radio and television and from 1961 also in film . So she appeared in Schlagerparade 1961 , This is what all girls dream of , Cafe Oriental , Ramona , When the music is playing on Lake Wörthersee and Schlagerrevue 1962 .

In 1962 Peggy Brown took part in the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden . Her title Das Lexikon d'amour reached number 6.

By 1965 Peggy Brown took on more titles, but she could no longer build on her success of 1960. One of her partners on a single was Claus Herwig (duo "Peggy and Jack"), who later started a successful solo career as Teddy Parker .

At the end of the 60s / beginning of the 70s she also played a musical role in the very successful Räuber Hotzenplotz radio plays by Egon L. Frauenberger (still available today on 6 CD / MC).

When her record contract expired, she decided not to renew it and founded the Peggy Brown Choir, a background choir that has participated in recordings by numerous artists such as Siw Malmkvist and Vico Torriani . In the 1970s she also gave up choir singing and retired from show business with her second husband.
