Nabil Totah
Nabil Marshall Totah ( Knobby Totah , born April 5, 1930 in Ramallah , † June 7, 2012 in York (Pennsylvania) ) was a jazz bassist of Palestinian origin.
Live and act
Totah came to the United States in 1944 and began studying bass in 1953. First he worked in Japan in 1953/4 with Toshiko Akiyoshi and Hampton Hawes , then with Bobby Scott , Johnny Smith and with Charlie Parker , Gene Krupa , Woody Herman , Eddie Costa . From 1956 he played with Zoot Sims (and Al Cohn ), with whom he worked until 1959, around 1957 with Tal Farlow , Bobby Jaspar and George Wallington . Later he played a. a. with Slide Hampton (1960), Bobby Hackett , Herbie Mann (1958 to 1961), Teddy Wilson (from 1964), Stephanie Nakasian , Johnnie Ray and 1962 to 1964 and 1973 with Gene Krupa, where he played on his last album. In addition to working as a sideman, he also released albums as a band leader.
