Ludwig Ahorner

Ludwig Ahorner (born May 9, 1930 in Straubing ; † May 14, 2007 in Bergisch Gladbach ) was a German geoscientist . Between 1960 and 1995 he was in charge of the Bensberg earthquake station .

Life

Ludwig Ahorner studied geology with Martin Schwarzbach at the University of Cologne . Immediately after receiving his diploma, Ahorner was given the management of the Bensberg earthquake station founded by Schwarzbach. In 1962 he received his doctorate with the dissertation research on the quaternary fracture tectonics of the Lower Rhine Bay in Cologne. From 1961 Ahorner received a position as a scientific assistant at the Cologne Geological Institute, where he was appointed professor on April 26, 1979. As an earthquake geologist and head of the Bensberg earthquake station, Ahorner was responsible for the seismic monitoring of the opencast mines in the Rhenish lignite mining area , as well as the creation of earthquake-compatible building standards. Among other things, he prepared seismological reports for nuclear power plants and dams. Including reports for the Mülheim-Kärlich nuclear power plant and the Gorleben nuclear waste storage facility .

Ahorner was a member of the German Society for Earthquake Engineering and Building Dynamics .
