German Society for Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics
The German Society for Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics (DGEB) is a scientific and technical association with around 300 members. It is a non-profit, registered association based in Hanover . The purpose of the association is to promote and develop the scientific and technological basis of the earthquake - engineering and structural dynamics and their application.
history
The association was founded on October 6, 1983. The initiator and first chairman was Professor Dr.-Ing. Günter Klein. In January 1991 the union with the National Group for Earthquake Engineering of the GDR took place .
aims
With the growing demands on the safety of industrial plants, in particular of nuclear plants, earthquake engineering and structural dynamics have become increasingly important worldwide. The association has set itself the goal of promoting contacts and cooperation between engineers, geophysicists and other geoscientists , as well as between authorities and business in the fields of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics.
activities
The association regularly organizes specialist conferences, workshops and specialist seminars. He edits the DGEB publications, in which 15 volumes have appeared so far, as well as the DGEB series of publications, and is co-editor of other publications. A 16-page newsletter appears twice a year as part of the civil engineer magazine . The association promotes the next generation of scientists in earthquake engineering and building dynamics by awarding sponsorship awards for theses and dissertations. After stronger earthquakes, the association supports exploration missions and sends experts to the affected regions to record the effects of the earthquake. There is a collaboration with the Austrian Society for Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics (OGE) and with the Swiss Society for Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics (SGEB). In particular, the so-called DA-CH conferences are held every two years.
