Nicolas Koob
Nicolas Koob (born July 26, 1930 in Préizerdaul ; † October 22, 2016 ) was a Luxembourg circuit and rally driver who was also an entrepreneur.
Career
Nicolas Koob was born as the son of a bus operator in Bettborn, a district of the Préizerdaul community. After the end of the Second World War , he trained as a mechanic and then worked as a taxi and bus driver.
He came into contact with motorsport late. In 1957 he bought a Triumph TR3 with which he competed in national rallies. He made his first international appearance in 1962 when he was at the start of the 1000 km race on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring . Together with the German Bruno Rente he drove a Porsche 718 GTR , but retired due to a defect. Until the mid-1970s, he mainly competed in long-distance races . He was registered several times in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race and the Le Mans 24-hour race as driver and team manager of a small racing team. In Spa, his best placement was sixth overall in 1967 and at Le Mans seventh in 1970 , together with Erwin Kremer in a Porsche 911 . In 1990 , at the age of 60, he started again in Spa, but dropped out prematurely.
In the 1970s he was also active as a rally driver. In 1976 and 1977 he came in ninth place in the top ten of the final ranking of the Monte Carlo Rally . In 1970 he was voted Sportsman of the Year in Luxembourg .
In addition to his work as a racing driver, Koob was also an entrepreneur. In 1961 he took over his father's bus company and opened a discotheque in his home town.
