Gregorio Escobar García

Gregorio Escobar García OMI (born September 12, 1912 in Estella , † November 28, 1936 in Paracuellos de Jarama ) was a Spanish Oblate of the Immaculate Virgin Mary .

On August 15, 1930, he made his first vows in the Oblate community. Subsequently he lived in the Oblate Study House in Pozuelo , where he completed his studies. In 1934 he had to interrupt this for military service, but was able to take his perpetual vows on November 26, 1935 . He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1936 in Madrid . Together with his confreres, he was arrested by armed militias in the course of the Spanish Civil War on July 22, 1936 in the Oblate Monastery in Pozuelo, but was released three days later. He was arrested again on October 15 of the same year and executed on November 28, 1936, along with twelve of his confreres.

The beatification of the 22 Spanish martyrs of the Oblates, including Gregorio Escobar García, took place on December 17, 2011 in the Cathedral of Madrid .
