Emil Petrovics
Emil Petrovics [ ˈɛmil ˈpɛtrovitʃ ] (born February 9, 1930 in Zrenjanin , Yugoslavia , † June 30, 2011 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian composer .
Emil Petrovics studied from 1949 to 1951 in Budapest with Rezső Sugár , then at the Franz Liszt Music Academy with Ferenc Szabó , Ferenc Farkas and János Viski . He worked as a conductor and from 1960 to 1964 as music director at the Budapest Petőfi Theater. He then became a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Arts (Színház- és Filmművészeti Egyetem). In 1994 he was elected a member of the Széchenyi Academy (Széchenyi Irodalmi és Művészeti Akadémia). He received the Kossuth Prize in 1966 and 2006 .
In addition to chamber music works, he composed three operas , an oratorio , a ballet , cantatas , a string symphony, a flute concerto and thirty film scores.
