Ferenc Szabó

Ferenc Szabó [ ˈfɛrɛnts ˈsɒboː ] (born December 27, 1902 in Budapest ; † November 4, 1969 there ) was a Hungarian composer.

Life

Szabó was a student of Leó Weiner and Zoltán Kodály at the Budapest Music Academy . He was a teacher there from 1945 and head of this institute from 1957 to 1967.

He composed two orchestral suites and a suite for chamber orchestra, an orchestral rhapsody, chamber music works, sonatas, cantatas and songs, and film music. His main work is the oratorio Stürmend the flood for tenor, choir and orchestra from 1955 on texts by Sándor Petőfi .
