Michael John Campbell-Jones (born January 21, 1930 in Leatherhead , † March 24, 2020 in London ) was an English racing driver .

Career

John Campbell-Jones had already achieved some success as a sports car driver when he bought a Cooper - Formula 2 in 1959 . With the Cooper he drove international and national Formula 2 races. A serious accident in Modena put the 1961 season to an early end and Campbell-Jones had to sit out the whole year.

In 1962 he became a teammate of Tony Settember at Emeryson . Campbell-Jones finished fifth in the Brussels Grand Prix and sixth in the 200-mile race at Aintree . He made his debut in the World Automobile Championship at the 1962 Belgian Grand Prix . The team fielded a Lotus 18 with which Campbell-Jones was classified in eleventh (he was 16 laps behind after a gearbox failure).

In 1963 he contested the British Grand Prix with a Lola Mk4 - Climax from Reg Parnell Racing ; 13th place, eight laps behind.

In the mid-1960s, Campbell-Jones gradually withdrew from racing. In 1966 he appeared surprisingly with an old BRP-Climax at the Gold Cup in Oulton Park ; then he resigned for good.
