Pierre Gabaye

Pierre Gabaye (born February 20, 1930 in Paris , † November 1, 2019 in Chamonix ) was a French composer.

Gabaye studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Simone Plé-Caussade and Tony Aubin and won the First Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1956 with the cantata Le Mariage forcé after Molière . Around the same time he received the First Composition Prize of the Concours des moins de 20 ans des Le Guide du Concert , twice the First Prize of the Concours de musique symphonique légère organized by Radio Television France , the First Audience and Jury Prize of the Concert référendum Pasdeloup and the First prize in piano at the Concours international de jazz .

From 1970 to 1995 he headed the light music department at Radio France , and also taught at the Conservatory of Vésinet. The main part of his compositional work, which in addition to chamber music also includes works in symphonic scoring, was created in the 1950s and 1960s. His last composition, Marche pommarde, dates from 1988.
