Raymond Serge Danon (born April 14, 1930 in Paris - † October 10, 2018 in Paris) was a French film producer.

Life

The son of an industrialist, Raymond Serge Danon, attended various schools in his hometown of Paris (Lycée Janson-de-Sailly, École supérieure de preparation aux affaires, École technique d'aéronautique et de construction automobile) and after graduating from high school, he first pursued a career in the private sector . From 1952 to 1959 he held the position of administrator in textile sales in Africa, then (1960) Danon switched to the film industry and became the top boss (official title: Président-directeur général) of his production company 'Les films Copernic'. From 1967 he held the same position in front of his company 'Lira Films'. From 1964 to 1969 Raymond Danon also acted as general director of the film studios in Boulogne near Paris and from 1969 to 1971 of the company 'Sotexco 5'. In 1973 he moved to the top of Unifrance-Film as president for two years and in 1976 became head of the interest group for France's film producers and exporters.

From the very beginning of his career as a producer, Danon produced top-class mainstream entertainment with his companies 'Copernic' and 'Lira Films' and worked almost continuously with the most prominent box-office stars in his country, including Jean Gabin (Monsieur; Herr on) in the 1960s and 1970s Brassac Castle ; Baldwin, the night ghost; The Cat), Louis de Funès (various 'Balduin' comedies), Robert Hossein (Cruel hands; Lord at Brassac Castle; I killed Rasputin ; Shots from the coat pocket; The Shameless), Alain Delon (With devilish greetings; The convict and the widow; The shocker; The lioness and her hunter; Ice cold as the silence; The gypsy; Mr. Klein; The antique hunter), Brigitte Bardot (Oh, these women), Romy Schneider (The things of life; The other's mistress; The girl and the commissioner; Summer love; Le train; Trio infernal), Michel Piccoli (The things of life; The girl and the commissioner; Vincent, François, Paul and the others), Simone Signoret (The Cat; The convict and the widow; The lioness and her hunter; Madame Rosa), Jean-Paul Belmondo (The Man from Marseille), Annie Girardot (The late girl; The shocker), Yves Montand (Vincent, François, Paul and the others; The beautiful wild ones), Philippe Noiret (The late girl; The watchmaker of St. Paul; The judge and the murderer), Jean-Louis Trintignant (murder does not fit into his concept; Le train; Computer morden quiet), Catherine Deneuve (Alone with Giorgio; The beautiful savages), Michel Serrault (Death a referee), Gérard Depardieu (Vincent, François, Paul and the others) and Charles Aznavour (shots from the coat pocket).

Occasionally Danon also got stars from the Anglo-American-speaking area for his work, including Samantha Eggar and Oliver Reed (for The Lady in the Car with Glasses and Gun ) and Charles Bronson and Anthony Perkins (for The Murderer Behind the Door ). Many of his works were created in co-production with the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy. For his sensitive female portrait of Madame Rosa with Simone Signoret, he received the Hollywood Oscar in 1978 in the category 'Best Foreign Language Production'. After this great success, Danon surprisingly interrupted his production activities for five years and, after his return in 1982, gradually withdrew from the film business in the course of the 1980s. Raymond Danon's daughter Géraldine Danon works as an actress and writer.
