Balduin, the Sunday driver (original title: Sur un arbre perché ) is a French - Italian comedy film by Serge Korber from 1971.

action

The wealthy road builder Henri Roubier, known as Beleluin, has made a good deal in Italy and is traveling from San Remo to Nice . Two hitchhikers , Madame Müller with her dog and a nameless hitchhiker, whom Roubier rather reluctantly took along, infuriated him to such an extent that he deviated from the mountain road to Cassis . The car is stranded in the crown of a pine tree that grows on a steep wall above the sea.

The three car occupants make unsuccessful attempts to get out of the car with their clothes tied together. The extreme heat and lack of fluids also bother them. They wait for rescue workers in their underwear. Together, the trio now has to keep their balance so that the car does not fall into the depths. A message in a bottle from Roubier, which reached the coast, announced the whereabouts of Roubier and his companions, and there was a great hype in the media, which broadcast the further events live on television, which attracted numerous other onlookers. Roubier's devout wife also appears on the scene and believes her husband is having an affair with Madame Müller. With a battery-powered television set, the car occupants can watch the media exploit the "case". Roubier suspects the hitchhiker for reporting a serial killer, who could be the wanted one. In Roubier's nightmares , the hitchhiker haunts him as a vampire .

Only after several days does a helicopter appear to take the car away. Previously, Madame Müller's jealous husband, who had seen his wife's turtles with the hitchhiker in the car through binoculars on the steep coast, had tried in vain to thwart the rescue operation. Opponents of Roubier from politics and business finally achieve with bribe payments that the car and its "crew" do not reach the mainland and are deposited on a tiny island.

background

In France there were around 1.62 million cinema viewers.

The pine tree from the film is on France's highest cliff , about 20 kilometers east of Marseille near Cassis ( Corniche des Crêtes ).

Although the film character is called "Henri", the German distributor gave the film the title "Baldwin the Sunday driver". Louis de Funes had already played the leading role in some films that had the name "Balduin" in the title ( Balduin, the safe breaker , Balduin - the night ghost etc.). The tradition was continued with this film.

The German version was produced by Deutsche Synchron . Ursula Buschow wrote the book and Karlheinz Brunnemann directed it. Regular speaker Gerd Martienzen dubbed Louis de Funes.

The synchronized version, which is usually broadcast on television, has been edited - the end of the film therefore makes no sense. The original version contains three more scenes, at the beginning of the film, in the middle and at the end, where you see three of Roubier's opponents who also want to do business with the motorway construction. At the end of the film, they are also sitting in the helicopter, which ultimately drops the car on a desert island in order to continue to eliminate their opponent. These missing scenes were not dubbed, but are included on more recent releases and have been subtitled.

Reviews

The magazine prisma said the comedy was "shot with routine". It delivers "enough hair-raising [sic!] Situations for the typical comedy of de Funès", which, however, also sets itself in scene "in quieter moments". The lexicon of international film describes the film as a “[un] entertaining Louis de Funès comedy with swipes at the competitive society”, which was “developed with precision and depth”.
