Fernand Sardou

Fernand Sardou (born September 18, 1910 in Avignon , Département Vaucluse , † January 31, 1976 in Toulon , Département Var ) was a French actor and singer.

Sardou was born at the Avignon train station and was the son of the actor Valentin Sardou (1868-1933) and his wife, the singer Joséphine Plantin (1892-1933; pseudonym "Sardounette").

Sardou broke off his school attendance prematurely and devoted himself almost exclusively to the chanson ; Félix Mayol soon became his role model and friend .

After the Rif War , Sardou did his military service in Casablanca and was already able to successfully complete smaller appearances as a soldier. Following his military service, he went on a tour to Brazil and then settled back in French Morocco . When his parents died in 1933, he left the country and settled in Paris .

Sardou was discovered as an actor and was able to achieve initial success here as well. He survived the Second World War in Provence , where he a. a. also met Rainier Grimaldi , who later became Prince of Monaco .

On July 7, 1945 Sardou married the actress Jacqueline Labbé (1919–1998) in Paris ( 18th arrondissement ) and had a son with her, the future singer Michel Sardou (* 1947).

On January 31, 1976, Sardou died of a heart attack at the city theater of Toulon during rehearsals for the Singspiel Im white horse (L'auberge de Cheval-Blanc). He found his final resting place in the cemetery of Neuilly-sur-Seine , where his wife Jackie was also buried in 1998. In 2006 the couple Fernand and Jackie Sardou were exhumed and they have been on the Cimetière du Grand Jas in Cannes ever since .
