Guy Lefranc

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guy André Lefranc (born October 21, 1919 in Paris , † February 1, 1994 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye ) was a French film director and screenwriter .

Lefranc was captured by Germany during World War II. After some time as assistant director to Marcel Carné , Jean Grémillon and Robert Bresson , he directed 21 films between 1951 and 1970, some of which he was involved in the script. Most of his films were also shown in German-speaking countries and were commercial successes in France, but are now almost forgotten. His contribution to the screenplay for a Jean Renoir film, in which he was able to use his experience as a prisoner of war, is arguably the most important of his oeuvre.
