Joan Carrera Planas

Joan Carrera Planas (born May 12, 1930 in Cornellà de Llobregat , Catalonia , Spain , †  October 3, 2008 in Barcelona ) was auxiliary bishop in Barcelona.

Life

Joan Carrera Planas studied at the Seminary of Barcelona and received on 11 July 1954, the priestly ordination . He worked as a priest and later in the pastoral care of the Catholic Action (Acció Catòlica) in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat , Badalona and Barcelona. He was committed to the renewal of the Church after the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and maintained contacts with representatives of the political world, in particular the Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC, Democratic Union for Catalonia). From 1969 to 1977 he was editor of "Editorial Nova Terra" and from 1985 to 1990 deputy director of the weekly newspaper "Catalunya Cristiana".

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Algeciras in 1991 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Barcelona . He was ordained episcopal on September 22, 1991 by the Archbishop and later Cardinal Ricardo María Carles Gordó ; Co-consecrators were the em. Archbishop of Barcelona Narciso Cardinal Jubany Arnau and Archbishop Mario Tagliaferri , Apostolic Nuncio in Spain. Since 2004 he has been vicar general . In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was in charge of the media committee.

He has published several books, including "La canya esquerdada" (1993), "Del post concili al post progressisme" (1994), "El gust de la fe" (2000) and "Aquest nadal en fa 2000" (2000).

He died of a stroke that he suffered on September 20th. He was buried in the Barcelona Cathedral.
