Héctor Zaraspe

Manuel Héctor Zaraspe (born June 8, 1930 in Aguilares ) is an Argentine ballet dancer, choreographer and ballet teacher.

Zaraspe was trained at the Teatro Colón by Esmée Bulnes , Gema Castillo and Otto Weber . He worked in Spain for eleven years and toured the United States for the first time in 1964 with the Antonio Ballet de Madrid . In 1965 he became the ballet master of Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev . He then worked as ballet master for Nureyev, Fonteyn and Carla Fracci on the film I am a Dancer and created choreographies for John Paul Jones (with Bette Davis and Robert Stack ), Spartacus (with Kirk Douglas ) and 55 Days in Beijing (with Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner ).

As a ballet teacher, Zaraspe has worked for Les Grandes Ballets Canadiens , the Dutch National Ballet, the international ballet competitions in Cologne and Cape Town and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Since 1970 he has been teaching at the Juilliard School , which now awards the Zaraspe Prize for the school's best choreographer. He himself has received prizes from the Fulbright Commission , UNESCO , the Medal of Honor of the Consejo Brasileño de la Danza , the Ballet Metropolitano de Caracas and a Premio Conex . He toured North America and Europe with the group Tango Passion as a choreographer and director.
