Wilfried Wessel

Wilfried Wessel (born August 27, 1930 ; † January 2, 2016 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and from 1989 to 1994 mayor of the city of Sankt Augustin in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Wessel joined the CDU in 1963 and was elected to the Sankt Augustinian city ​​council for the first time in 1975 , to which he was a member until 1999. From 1982 to 1989 and again from 1998 to 1999 he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. After the municipal elections in 1989, he was elected honorary mayor of Sankt Augustins by the council as the successor to Karl Gatzweiler . After the SPD and Greens had achieved a majority in the local elections in 1994 , Anke Riefers was elected mayor and Wessel was first deputy mayor. He held this office for five years, from 1994 to 2004 he also represented Sankt Augustin in the district assembly of the Rhein-Sieg district.

He lived in the Niederpleis district .
