Winnifred Sim

Winnifred Sim (born Johnston ; born June 28, 1930 in Winnipeg ) is a Canadian pianist, organist and music teacher.

Sim studied piano with her aunt Winnifred Hubble Frayne , a sister of filmmakers Hubble , and Gwendda Owen Davies, and organ with Hugh Bancroft , John Clarke and Ronald Gibson . She worked as an organist and choirmaster at Sparling United Church (1947–65), Westworth United Church (1965–75) and Elim Chapel (1977–91). In 1991 she became organist and music director at Grace Bible Church in Winnipeg.

In 1952, Sim made his debut with the CBC . In 1965 she became the organist of the CBC's Hymn Sing series and, in 1977, succeeded Eric Wild as its program director. Since around 1950 she has been the official piano accompanist at the Manitoba Music Competition Festival . She worked u. a. as the accompanist of the violinist Lea Foli and the singers Peter van Ginkel and Nona Mari . With van Ginkel she recorded Ralph Vaughan Williams ' Songs of Travel , Hugo Wolf's poems by Michelangelo and Ludwig van Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte . Since 1970 Sim has taught organ at the Canadian Mennonite Bible College . She gave workshops in the subjects of conducting, choir accompaniment, ear training and church choir education.
