Carolyn Jones (* 28. April 1930 as Carolyn Sue Baker in Amarillo , Texas ; † 3. August 1983 , Hollywood , California ) was an American actress .

Career

Carolyn Jones , who is seriously ill with asthma, has wanted to see films since she was a child . Therefore, shortly after graduating from school, she underwent cosmetic surgery . In 1952 she had her first film appearance in William Dieterle's crime film The Turning Point with William Holden . Her first big success was the horror film Professor Bondi's Cabinet in 1953 , the first 3D film by a large production company.

Carolyn Jones was then invited to screen tests for the novel, Damn In All Eternity , that same year . However, an illness prevented her from appearing in the legendary flick. In 1956 she starred in the hit science fiction film The Demonic by Don Siegel . In 1957, she impressed in a supporting role of a few minutes as a nymphomaniac in Delbert Mann's dialogue drama The Bachelor Party , for which she earned an Oscar nomination. In 1958 she was Elvis Presley's partner in Mein Leben ist der Rhythm and won the Golden Globe for Best Young Actress for The Love of Marjorie Morningstar . The 1959 film Many Are Called featured much-lauded performances by leading actors Dean Martin , Shirley MacLaine , Anthony Franciosa and Carolyn Jones, but it fell through with the audience. After that, she only had one major cinema appearance, namely in the monumental western That Was the Wild West (1963).

From 1964, however, followed the role for which she is known worldwide, the mother "Morticia", who radiates a lascivious sexuality , in the television series The Addams Family . Despite its success, the series was discontinued after two years. In 1979, Carolyn Jones appeared in the miniseries Victor Charlie Calling Lima Sierra . She remained a busy actress, especially on television , until her death from cancer in 1983 .

Carolyn Jones was first married to Don Donaldson, a fellow student. From 1953 to 1964 she was the first wife of the later extremely successful television producer Aaron Spelling . From 1968 to 1977 she was married to the film director Herbert S. Greene. Already life-threateningly ill, she married her colleague Peter Bailey-Britton, her partner from the television series Capitol , in 1982 . Her last appearance in front of the camera was in a wheelchair.
