Václav Vorlíček
Václav Vorlíček (born June 3, 1930 in Prague ; † February 5, 2019 there ) was a Czech film director . Some of his works are now considered classics of Czech film : in particular, his fairy tale film Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella is extremely popular and is often shown on German television at Christmas time.
life and career
Václav Vorlíček was instrumental in the great success of the Czechoslovak film industry in the fields of fairy tale films and comedy . In his youth he was a boy scout . It was decisively shaped by comic magazines that American soldiers brought into the country in 1945. After graduating from high school, he studied between 1951 and 1956 at the film faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague ; there he graduated with the short film Directive . He then worked for the Barrandov film studios as a director and screenwriter. Vorlíček worked for many years with the screenwriter and writer Miloš Macourek . A film that was popular in many parts of Europe, especially at Christmas, was Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella from 1973. He also achieved success in the 1980s with the television series Die Märchenbraut and The Flying Ferdinand . Most recently he directed the family film Saxána a Lexikon kouzel in 2011 .
Vorlíček, widower and father of two daughters, last lived in Prague and died there at the age of 88 of complications from cancer.
