In order to get a new one, she decides to steal the king's magic purse with the help of the "Lord of the Flames". He also holds the witch's opponent - the fairy Melusine - in the chimney of the royal castle. The king promises whoever gets his lost purse back his daughter, Princess Blanka, as a wife. Prince Peter, disguised as a chimney sweep , succeeds in driving the Lord of the Flames away, freeing Melusine and getting the wallet back. In the meantime, Prince Peter and Princess Blanka have fallen in love and are getting married at the end of the fairy tale.

Reviews

In 1997, the film-dienst ruled: "A restless conventional fairy tale, staged in an acceptable manner with the materials and know-how of the renowned Czech children's film."

Katrin Hoffmann from Kinder- und Jugendfilmkorrespondenz, on the other hand, took the following point of view: “Vaclav Vorlicek has succeeded in another fairy tale adaptation! This time - after he had already created a children's film classic with Drei Hazelnuss für Cschenbrödel - he chose The Magic Book, an old Czech fairy tale ... Good and bad are clearly characterized, the musical themes also clearly separate - if not too clearly - in bad and right . "

“A conventional film fairy tale, prepared with the familiar thematic materials and the staging routine of the renowned Czech children's film. However, one looks in vain for newer ideas or narrative forms. "

Awards

At the children's film festival in Zlín , the film was awarded first prize by the children's jury.
