Miloš Kopecký (born August 22, 1922 in Prague ; † February 16, 1996 there ) was a Czech actor and member of the Divadlo na Vinohradech theater .

Life

Kopecký began his stage career in 1941 in the German-occupied Prague. As a Jew, he was imprisoned in a camp and his mother was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and murdered in Auschwitz . After the liberation he was able to resume his theater work.

His ability to improvise promptly enabled him to work with great actors such as Jan Werich and Miroslav Horníček . He worked in several Prague theaters until he found his final home in 1965 at Divadlo na Vinohradech.

Kopecký made his film debut in 1946. He mostly played characteristic supporting roles. In Germany he became famous for his appearances in the series Pan Tau and The Hospital on the Edge of the City . In the early 1980s he hosted the anti- emigrant and for the regime directed series Step into the Unknown (Krok do neznáma) on Czech television . One of his greatest final theater roles was the character of Richard III. by William Shakespeare .

Kopecký was a member of the Communist Party and a signatory of Anticharta 77, which he was forced to sign as a member of the Communist Party. In May 1987 Kopecký gave a very critical speech against the leadership of the Communist Party at the IV Congress of the Association of Dramatic Artists and urged them to resign.

For a while he was the husband of actress Stella Zázvorková .
