Divadlo na Vinohradech
Divadlo na Vinohradech (German: Theater in the Vineyards ) was opened on November 24, 1907 on today's Peace Square in the city of Královské Vinohrady (German: Royal Vineyards ) near Prague and is today one of the great Prague theaters.

In 1902 there was a competition for “a theater of Slavic authors” . The winning design out of twelve submitted came from the architect Alois Čenský . Construction began in 1905 by the builders Jan Majer and Josef Veselý . At the premiere in 1907, Godiva was performed by Jaroslav Vrchlický .
Since 1919, only plays have been performed according to the original purpose. On February 1, 1922, Vinohrady became a district of Prague and so the Městské divadlo (German: Städtisches Kammertheater ) and the Divadlo na Vinohradech were merged and continued as the Prague City Theater (Czech: Městské divadlo ). In 1950 there was a forced separation when the Central Theater of the Czechoslovak Army was split off from the theater . The newly created theater was later renamed the Theater of the Czechoslovak Army . In 1967 it got its original name back. In addition to the playhouse, the theater now has a theater club and a chamber theater.
Numerous well-known Czech actors such as Miloš Kopecký , Václav Vydra and Jaroslav Vojta performed in the theater . Karel Čapek stood out as a dramaturge . It was directed by personalities such as Karel Hugo Hilar , Otakar Ostrčil , Jaroslav Kvapil and Jiří Frejka .
