Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini

Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini (* thirtieth January 1927 in Paris ; † 7. November 1956 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French - Swiss reportage - Photographer .

Life

Pedrazzini was born in Paris as a French-Swiss citizen. His mother was from Monaco, his father from Campo (Vallemaggia) .

He grew up in Paris, Nice and, after the outbreak of World War II, in Switzerland. After the war he returned to Paris. Here he found his first job with the weekly magazine Paris Match , initially as an assistant to the photo reporter Walter Carone . Just a year and a half later, he was promoted to grand reporter .

His most famous reports were about an American military base at the North Pole, the coronation of the British Queen and the unrest in Tunisia and Morocco, as well as a trip through the Soviet Union.

In 1956 he was sent to Budapest on behalf of Paris Match to document the Hungarian uprising . There he was hit by 14 bullets on October 30th. Seriously injured, he was transferred to Paris, where he died on November 7th. Pedrazzini is remembered in Hungary as one of the heroes of the uprising.

He was then buried in the Locarno cemetery.

Honors

Posthumously he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . On the occasion of the commemoration of the uprising of the Hungarian people, the Swiss President Moritz Leuenberger and the French Minister Delegate for European Affairs Catherine Colonna unveiled a bust of Pedrazzini in Budapest on October 23, 2006 .
