action

The king I I. does not know which of his three daughters he should inherit the throne. So he decides to put her to the test and asks how precious he is to his daughters. The one who loves him the most is to become the next queen. The eldest daughter, Princess Diamanta, explains that her father is as dear to her as gold. The second daughter, Melodine, replies that her father is as dear to her as the gold in her throat. The youngest, Princess Maruška, says he is as dear to her as salt. The angry king then chases Maruška away and has all the salt supplies in his kingdom destroyed. From then on, the people of the empire no longer enjoy their food and the desserts spoil their stomachs. The king realizes the injustice he has done to Maruška and goes through his kingdom in search of her.

criticism

“A fairy tale film about the folly of a king and the wisdom of his daughter who has recognized that salt is more important than gold. A moral story in a staging of the younger brother of Karel Zeman, which is also accessible to smaller children and convincingly played by the two 50s stars Werich and Burian. "
