Helmut Sihler

Helmut Sihler (born April 6, 1930 in Klagenfurt ) was a German manager . He was honorary professor for marketing and corporate management at the University of Münster .

Sihler grew up in a teacher's household. He completed a philological degree and then completed a second degree in law. He completed both courses with a doctorate. In 1957 he began his professional career at the Düsseldorf-based Henkel Group in the marketing department and in 1980 was the first non-family manager to take over as chairman of the board. In 1992 he retired due to age. From 1993 to 2007 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche AG. From 1996 to 2006 he was Vice President of Novartis AG Basel.

Since the mid-1990s, he worked in leading positions in the privatization of the state-owned company Deutsche Bundespost . He was first chairman of the supervisory board of Deutsche Post AG . From July 1, 1996 to 2000, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Telekom . After the resignation of the then Telekom boss Ron Sommer in July 2002, he was interim CEO of the group until Kai-Uwe Rickes took office in November 2002 .

Sihler has been awarded the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany and the great gold medal of the Republic of Austria.
