Heinz Schiller (born January 25, 1930 in Frauenfeld , † March 25, 2007 in Geneva ) was a Swiss automobile racing driver .

Career

Heinz Schiller was a Swiss speedboat champion before he got into sport on four wheels. He began to drive national races in a Porsche GT and RS Sport in Switzerland in the 1950s and achieved countless class wins. In 1957 he finished second in his class at the Mille Miglia , again with a Porsche. In 1958 he drove a Porsche RS in the Formula 2 race in Pau and achieved sixth place.

In 1961 he drove a full season in the European Hill Climb Championship with a Porsche Carrera Abarth, which he crowned with the title win in the GT category. In 1962 he got a contract with the Scuderia Filipinetti and became a teammate of Jo Siffert . He drove the team's Porsche 718 Monoposto in Grand Prix races that were not part of the World Championship. At the 1962 German Grand Prix - it was his only appearance in the automobile world championship - he drove the team's Lotus 24 - BRM . He started the race from 20th on the grid, but retired on the fourth lap with falling oil pressure. Once again he drove the now aging Porsche 718 for the Scuderia . At the race in Pau in 1963, he achieved third place, his best position in a monoposto race.

He was also successful in sports cars. For the Scuderia he achieved third place in his class with a Porsche 904 in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1963 . In 1964, again in the Porsche 904, there was a tenth place overall and a third in the class - again with Jo Siffert - at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and eighth place in the overall classification of the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring .
