Christoph Albrecht (composer)

Christoph Albrecht (born January 4, 1930 in Salzwedel ; † September 24, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German organist , conductor and composer who also worked as a hymnologist and liturgical scholar.

Life

From 1943 to 1948, Albrecht was still a student organist at the St. Marien Church in Salzwedel and studied theology and church music in Halle (Saale) until 1953 . He also had private organ lessons with Günther Ramin . From 1953 he was cantor at Naumburg Cathedral and lecturer at the church music school in Halle . He studied church music in 1950 with the church music state examination ( A-examination ) and he studied theology in 1960 with his doctorate. theol. graduated from the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University in Halle. In the same year he became director of the Dresden church music school . From 1976 to 1992 he was organist and cantor at St. Marien Church in Berlin .

Albrecht performed as an organ soloist in the GDR, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands , Sweden , the USSR and the USA . He is the author of publications on liturgy and hymnology , was a rediscoverer and editor of sacred music from the 16th to 18th centuries and a composer. In 1986 he and Ernst Gottfried Lowenthal received the Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize . Since 1993 he has worked internationally as an organist, organ teacher and conductor on advanced training courses and seminars.

His grave is in Cemetery III of the Georgen Parochial Congregation in Berlin-Weißensee .
