Uwe Bahnsen (Designer)

Uwe Bahnsen (* 1930 in Hamburg ; † July 30, 2013 in France ) was a German automobile designer .

After an apprenticeship as a window dresser, Bahnsen studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. From 1958 to 1986 he held various positions at Ford Europe, most recently as Vice President for Design. During this time he realized various automobile designs such as the Taunus 17M (the "bathtub") or the Capri II . In addition, the racing enthusiast Bahnsen organized a Ford works team in the 1960s.

In 1986 Bahnsen moved to the private Art Center College of Design in La Tour de Peilz (Switzerland) as training director, which he headed between 1990 and 1995. In 1992 he was elected to the Executive Board of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and was its President from 1995 to 1997. Bahnsen was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts , a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers and an International Member of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
