Carlos Díaz (singer)

Carlos Díaz (born October 20, 1930 in Trinidad , † February 7, 2002 in Miami ) was a Cuban singer.

biography

Díaz came to Havana with his family in 1941 and began singing in groups in his barrio. From around 1949 he appeared as the singer of the group Los Hermanos Castro in the Hotel Nacional and became the successor of the previous principal singer Cheo Valladares .

His first successful recordings were made in Venezuela, and Díaz worked with the Orquesta Casino de la Playa . On television, he appeared in musicals such as My Fair Lady , Can-Can , Gigi and El Soldado de Chocolate . At the same time, further recordings were made with various orchestras in the 1950s and 1960s.

After a serious accident in 1965, Díaz had to interrupt his career for a year. In 1969 he left Cuba and appeared in hotels in the Meliá chain in Spain . In 1973 he went to Venezuela, where he appeared on radio and television and recorded with the groups of Billo Frómeta and Lucho Bermúdez .
