Lucho Bermúdez
Luis Eduardo Bermúdez (born January 25, 1912 in El Carmen de Bolívar , † April 23, 1994 in Bogotá ) was a Colombian composer.
Bermúdez, who composed military marches and waltzes as a child, studied in Santa Maria. In the local military band he played the piccolo, flute, trombone, euphonium, trumpet, alto saxophone and clarinet. In the 1930s he came to Cartagena, where he played the A No. Orchestra founded by Pianeta Pitalúa . 1 headed.
At Radio Cartagena he made one of the first recordings made in Colombia, the Porro Marbella . In 1939 he founded the Orquesta del Caribe , with which he made recordings in Bogotá. In 1946 he traveled to Buenos Aires, where he recorded with the singer Matilde Diaz . A few months later he went to Medellín and founded the Orquesta de Lucho Bermúdez here , to which the composer Alejandro Tobar also belonged. This is where recordings like Salsipuedes and San Fernando were made , which are considered milestones in Colombian discography.
In 1950 Bermúdez recorded more than 50 records in Mexico. He worked here with musicians such as Benny Moré , Dámaso Pérez Prado and Tito Rodríguez . In 1951 he came to Cuba at the invitation of Ernesto Lecuona . Here he worked with La Sonora Matancera , Los Billo's Caracas Boys and Los Melódicos, among others . After his return to Colombia he worked in Medellín until his death .
Bermúdez is one of the most important composers and interpreters of Colombian folk music in the 20th century. He was one of the first composers to combine the Caribbean rhythms of Porros , Cumbias , Gaitas , Fandangos , Mapalés , Paseos and Merengues with the language of contemporary music.
