Life

Sergius Golowin was born in Prague in 1930. In 1933 his mother, the poet Alla von Steiger (Golowina), returned to Switzerland with her son; the father Aleksandr Sergejewitsch Golowin (1904–1968), a Russian sculptor, lived separately from his family in Paris. After his school days Sergius Golowin worked as a library assistant at the Bern City and University Library . He was involved in the youth movement . Between 1957 and 1968 he worked as an archivist in Burgdorf . Golowin later lived as a freelance writer near Bern. Between 1971 and 1981 he was a member of the Grand Council of the State Ring of Independents (LdU) in particular for youth culture and environmental issues. As a result of a parliamentary move by Sergius Golowin, the Canton of Bern recognized the minority rights of travelers to their own culture in 1975 . Many of his books deal with travelers. He was also an active member of the board of directors of the Landstrasse wheel cooperative founded in Bern in 1975 , the umbrella organization of the Swiss Yeniche .

Sergius Golowin was the author of numerous books and articles on topics such as folklore and esotericism. For his services to folklore and people on the fringes of society, he received the Swiss Schiller Foundation Prize in 1974 . Urban Gwerder published exclusive articles by Golowin in his magazine Hotcha (1968–1971).

Sergius Golowin was a close witness of many celebrities and events: he accompanied Timothy Leary when he was freed from prison and fled into exile in Switzerland, and was friends with Friedrich Dürrenmatt and Hans Carl Artmann . Golowin was also portrayed by HR Giger , took part in the first and second “Symposium for Alchemy” organized by Urs Tremp and was also there when Polo Hofer's legendary Bernese rock group Rumpelstilz - which supported his election campaign - made their first appearance. He was also known to Martin Schippert , the founder of the Swiss Hells Angels . Golovin was one of the fichierten people of the country with Ficheneintrag as "nonconformist prominentester of Bern".

In 1973 Sergius Golowin recorded the LP Lord Krishna from Goloka with the "Cosmic Couriers" . The recording is characterized by improvised electronic sounds with voice recordings by Sergius Golowin. He was musically supported by the musicians Klaus Schulze , Walter Westrupp , Bernd Witthüser , Jerry Berkers , Jürgen Dollase and Jörg Mierke . In 1978 he took part in the "Fiesta Monte Verità" in memory of Gusto Gräser in Ascona and appeared on Monte Verità as a speaker.

On September 16, 2016 - 10 years after Golovin's death - his personality, his writings and his work were honored for the first time. This as part of the Feckerchilbi in Bern, a traditional Yenish festival. The motto of the remembrance event with staged readings was "Sergius Golowin as an inspirer for the Yeniche, Sinti and Roma in Switzerland"; it was organized and directed by Willi Wottreng , publicist and managing director of the Radgenossenschaft der Landstrasse .
