From 1995 Kronauer entered into regular correspondence with the historian Ernst Nolte. Nolte quoted Kronauer's initial letter to him from July 21, 1999: “For some time now I have been thinking about setting up a foundation for prospective historians”, the purpose of which should be to “destroy the German To counteract historical awareness ”.

He was a co-signer of the appeal “8. May 1945 - against forgetting ”by the new right Institute for State Policy (IfS), which appeared in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .
