Life

Ueli Beck completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and later worked as a taxi driver, construction handler and bank clerk.

However, his interest in the theater drew him. He received acting lessons from Ellen Widmann and Sigfrit Steiner . This was followed by engagements with various producers and on numerous stages, for example at the Schauspielhaus Zurich or the Bernhard Theater , and later also in film productions.

From 1964 onwards, he hosted programs such as Nachtexpress or Autoradio Schweiz for around 30 years on Swiss radio DRS and became one of the most famous radio voices in German-speaking Switzerland despite a slight speech defect : a slight hissing between his teeth was typical for him and made him unmistakable.

He gave his voice to numerous characters in radio plays. He did this to the end, for example in the hair-raising cases of Philip Maloney .

Ueli Beck had retired as a radio presenter since 1995, but still worked as an actor and gave readings and lectures. In June 2005 he was on stage in Science at the Casinotheater Winterthur . From December 2005 to April 2006 he played the male title role in the musical Jonas & Madelaine on the KKL stage in Lucerne. In December 2007 he played in the play Three Men in the Snow based on the novel by Erich Kästner . Together with his former radio and theater colleagues Elisabeth Schnell and Max Rüeger , he recently presented the program Sinerzyt on DRS Musikwelle .

He died on August 27, 2010 after a long illness at the age of 79 in Zollikerberg Hospital .
