Elisabeth Schnell (born January 22, 1930 in Zurich ; † February 1, 2020 in Lauenen ) was a Swiss actress , radio presenter and author .

Life

Elisabeth Schnell grew up in the old town of Zurich, where her parents - like her grandparents - were tenants in the Zunfthaus zur Schmiden. After graduating from commercial school, she trained as an actress with Ellen Widmann and Adolf Manz , among others .

Her acting career began in 1948 at the Stadttheater Luzern in the Midsummer Night's Dream in the role of Hermia, later she played in Chur and at the Schauspielhaus Zürich , where she was an extra and took on minor roles. This was followed by appearances with César Keiser's cabaret "Kikeriki" in the Kom (m) ödchen in Düsseldorf.

For her livelihood, Elisabeth Schnell worked as a tour guide, bathed dogs and typed manuscripts, followed by study trips to Munich and Rome, where she also appeared in photoromanzi . After her return to Switzerland she took on roles in, among others, Uli der Knecht and Oberstadtgass .

In 1954, she began her career at Swiss Radio Beromünster in the entertainment department, where she worked as an announcer for an hourly wage of five francs. Later she created her own programs like the first regular program for seniors on the Swiss radio Kafichränzli , Espresso , In the car through Switzerland , partly together with Ueli Beck . She was considered to be the inventor of the famous night express program , which first went on air on July 4, 1969. She also moderated Swiss hiking on television and the Christmas program on Christmas Eve. In the program Ratatouille with Raoul Bärlocher, she was the first female quiz master on Swiss television . In the vernacular she was repeatedly called "Frau Beromünster".

In addition to her work on the radio, Elisabeth Schnell was often on stage. In 1990 she took early retirement, which allowed her to devote more time to the theater. She often appeared in musicals and comedies by Hans Gmür , together with Erich Vock , Ruedi Walter and Ueli Beck. Elisabeth Schnell also belonged to the ensemble of the Small Niederdorf Opera . In the broadcast Sinerzyt ( Seinerzeit ) of the DRS Musikwelle she could still be heard as a presenter. Most recently she stood in front of the camera alongside Monica Gubser in Rolf Lyssy's film " The Last Pointe " .

Elisabeth Schnell was single and lived in Zurich. In her free time she enjoyed reading or hiking in the vicinity of her holiday home in the Bernese Oberland . She died shortly after her 90th birthday after a long illness in the Bernese Oberland.
