Conrad (also: Konrad ) Eduard Reinhold Ansorge (born October 15, 1862 in Buchwald near Liebau , Landkreis Landeshut i. Schles. , † February 13, 1930 in Berlin ) was a German pianist , composer and music teacher .

Life

Conrad Ansorge studied at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1880 to 1882 , lived in Weimar from 1883 to 1885 and was a student of Franz Liszt there in 1885 . He then went on numerous concert tours throughout Europe and America. Ansorge settled in Weimar in 1893 and then lived in Berlin from 1895. From 1898 to 1904 and again from 1916 until the end of his life he was a teacher at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory . 1910–1925 Ansorge was head of a master class at the Conservatory in Königsberg during the summer months. From 1920 he was head of the piano master class at the German Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Prague . In 1918 he was appointed royal professor.

Ansorge wrote numerous orchestral and chamber music works, sonatas, piano pieces and songs as well as arrangements that are now forgotten, with a few exceptions. As a pianist, he was particularly distinguished by his profound, spiritual interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin and Liszt, whereby the technique was entirely in the service of musical representation.

Conrad Ansorge's students included Alice Herz-Sommer , Selim Palmgren , James Simon , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Eduard Erdmann , Mina Tobler , Rudolf Müller-Chappuis , Eta Harich-Schneider , Herwarth Walden and Emmi Knoche .

Ansorge had been married to a former student, the pianist Margarete Wegelin (1872–1944), since 1891 . The two had four children. Her son Joachim Ansorge (1893–1947) was also a pianist and teacher at the Institute for School and Church Music in Königsberg (Prussia) , and from 1939 to 1945 professor of piano at the University of Music in Berlin. Her second son Arnulf Ansorge (1894–1954) worked after a doctorate in philosophy and studies in German at various schools, including abroad (Brazil, France). He was married to the pianist Elisabeth Lisa Ansorge. The actor and voice actor Joachim Ansorge (1939–1980) was a grandson of Conrad Ansorge.
