The FEV Europe GmbH (formerly FEV Engine Technology GmbH ) is a German subsidiary of FEV Group GmbH and one of the world's largest independent provider of development services in the development of engines and vehicle technology with headquarters in Aachen . It designs and develops engines for devices, cars and commercial vehicles , but also for ships and locomotives - from the sketch to the start of series production. FEV has been operating its own fleet of electric vehicles since 2010. In addition to the development work in around 65 drive projects, FEV has completed around 20 battery projects in the past few years - including water-cooled high-performance plug-in hybrid batteries and a passively-cooled package for purely electric vehicles. FEV also has expertise in the fields of electronics and vehicle technology as well as telematics and infotainment systems and manufactures and operates measuring and test stands with which engines and vehicles are tested for durability, acoustics and emissions.

In addition to Aachen, there are further development sites in Auburn Hills ( USA ) and Dalian ( China ). In addition, there is close cooperation with the Chair for Internal Combustion Engines (VKA) at RWTH Aachen University .

Customers are almost all well-known motor vehicle manufacturers in the world.

In 1978, Franz Pischinger founded the company as a research company for energy technology and internal combustion engines (FEV) in a building near the Kármán auditorium at RWTH Aachen University. Today FEV employs over 6200 people worldwide. The group's turnover in 2018 was EUR 650 million.

FEV is still owned by the Pischinger family today.

history

In 1978, the Research Association for Energy Technology and Internal Combustion Engines (FEV) GmbH was founded by Franz Pischinger in Augustinergasse in Aachen. In 1980 the company moved to a former Fafnir factory building on Jülicher Strasse in Aachen-Nord . 1985 the establishment of the branch in Auburn Hills (USA) followed and in 1986 the construction of the container test stands in the Jülicher Straße began. In 1990 the branch on Neuenhofstrasse, Aachen, was opened in the presence of Federal Research Minister Heinz Riesenhuber . In 1994 a prototype vehicle with electro-mechanical valve train was created. In 1998 the vehicle application center in Alsdorf and the branch in Beijing were opened .

In 2003 the chairmanship of the management was handed over to Stefan Pischinger as part of the upcoming generation change . In 2005 the development center in Dalian (China) was opened. In 2006 there was a generation change within the management: founder Franz Pischinger and his long-term companions Manfred Schaffrath and Peter Walzer left the company.
