Władysław Słowiński

Władysław Słowiński (born May 14, 1930 in Sadlno ) is a Polish composer and conductor .

Slowiński took violin and piano lessons as a child and began composing at the age of twelve. From 1949 to 1951 he studied musicology with Adolf Chybiński at the University of Poznan , from 1950 to 1954 composition with Tadeusz Szeligowski and from 1951 to 1955 conducting with Walerian Bierdiajew and Stanisław Wisłocki at the Music Academy in Poznan .

From 1954 to 1964 Slowinski was a conductor at the Poznan Opera House . In 1964, opera director Bohdan Wodiczko appointed him as a conductor at the Warsaw Opera . From 1970 to 1973 he was artistic director of the record company Polskie Nagrania , after which he was general secretary of the Polish Composers' Union until 1979, of which he has headed the Warsaw department since 1985. In 1986 he founded the Warszawskie Spotkania Muzyczne Festival , and served as its director.
