Ewa Szelburg-Zarembina
Ewa Szelburg-Zarembina (born Irena Szelburg ; born April 10, 1899 in Bronowice , Lublin Voivodeship , † September 28, 1986 in Warsaw ) was a Polish writer.
Szelburg spent a sheltered childhood in Nałęczów and studied Polish philology in Cracow after the death of his parents . She also worked as a teacher. After completing her studies, she married at the age of twenty-two and was married to Józef Zaremba after the failure of this marriage . Szelburg has been writing poems and stories for children since she was still at school. Her first poems appeared in 1922, she worked on textbooks and published a children's magazine.
During the Second World War she was evacuated to Lviv and suffered a miscarriage on the way. The longing for the place of her childhood and the trauma of the miscarriage played a central role in her literary works, which in addition to poems and children's books also include stories and novels for adults. After the war, Ewa Szelburg-Zarembina lived with her husband in Warsaw. Both were buried in the Nałęczów cemetery, where a memorial by Józef Ciechan commemorates the writer.
