The city emerged from the village of Bochotnica on the Bochotniczanka river. A market town developed around the church hill from the first half of the 14th century. In 1523 the place came under the rule of the Samborzecki family. Mikołaj Samoborzecki destroyed the church during the Reformation, which his descendants rebuilt. Due to the wars of the 17th and 18th centuries, the place lost its importance.

In 1751 Stanisław Małachowski (1727–1784), Starost of Wąwolnica , also became the landlord of the entire area. The current name of the place is derived from its Nałęcz coat of arms . Today's coat of arms of the city and municipality shows the heraldic knot of the Nałęcz family on the left and the Pilawa coat of arms of Stanisław's wife Marianna Potocka († 1772) on the right. Małachowski built his castle in today's spa gardens from 1768 to 1775.

After the death of his first wife Małachowski went into debt and was forced to sell the property in Naleczow to his distant relative Antoni Małachowski (1740–1796) in 1778. Since he suffered from gout , he sought relief and discovered the healing springs in Nałęczów. The bathing operation began in 1796, but the place was destroyed by Russian troops in the November uprising of 1830/1831.

About fifty years later, the health resort was brought back to life by three doctors. The first Kurhaus was built and the railway line in the north led past the site. The years 1880 to 1914 are considered "the golden era" in the history of the spa. Well-known guests included the Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz and the writer Bolesław Prus .

After both world wars, the health resort had to be rebuilt. In 1929 the place received the official status of a health resort and became the seat of the Gmina . After the infrastructure was expanded, well-known visitors came to the cure again. In 1954, the state company Uzdrowisko Nałęczów took over the operation and reconstruction. The town received an upswing when it was granted city rights in 1963. Since then, a large number of the old buildings have been placed under monument protection. Some of the villas are still in poor condition, such as Villa Marzanna .

The state baths were privatized in 2001.

traffic

The railway line between Puławy and Lublin is currently being modernized. The Nałęczów station, opened in 1877, was located in Sadurki eight kilometers east of the city. When the new, representative station building in Drzewce-Kolonia was completed in 1926 , the "Nałęczów Station" moved from Sadurki to Drzewce. It is located three kilometers north of the city and will be approached by PKP Intercity buses during the modernization work .
